Welcome!!

Welcome to my website, Street Awaaz. First and foremost, for those of you wondering what ‘Awaaz’ means, it means “VOICE” in Urdu/Hindi. Therefore, StreetAwaaz is “Street Voices”.

They call me Sheila Mirza. I am 21 year-old youth organizer, spoken word artist, poet, and most importantly, MURALIST in Washington, DC. I am a volunteer staff with the Youth Leadership Support Network and coordinate projects in youth media, theater, movement history, open-mics and workshops at schools, colleges and conferences.

I was raised in Queens, New York City where I noticed street art aka “Graffiti” all over the place. Thus began my journey of replicating the images I noticed and eventually creating my own style of Graff. I use my art so people can easily recognize community organizing in their neighborhoods. Specifically, I paint banners for local and national organizations, campaigns, and conferences.

I am also experienced in facilitating week or month long banner painting sessions with members of organizations, which predominantly have been youth. In this website, you will see pictures of banners I’ve painted over the years.

Many organizations pay thousands of dollars for a professionally made banner. I feel its better for groups to provide funding for local artists to paint them a one-of-a-kind piece of art to represent themselves during events, conferences, campaigns, and/or marches.

I’ve also painted smaller pieces for individuals. These pieces make great gifts or decoration.

If you are interested in my process including timelines and compensation for a banner for your organization, please do not hesitate to contact me through e mail: sadaknoise@gmail.com

HOPE TO HEAR FROM YA!!
Sheila Mirza
